A glass of water before meals

Drink more water and you will be healthier, have a glass of water before meals and less is you - some of the most common tips that you can hear on the water. Although they seem reasonable, these tips until recently did not have a lot of scientific evidence that supported them.

A group of scientists led by Dr. Brenda Davy, from Virginia Tech, conducted the first randomized controlled testing, examining the relationship between drinking water and weight loss. Report on the test, which lasted 12 weeks, shows that drinking water before meals can help you lose weight significantly.

At the meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston last year, dr. Davy has revealed the results of a one-year follow-up study that confirms and expands. The American Chemical Society is the largest scientific association in the world and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research, as mentioned survey gives additional credibility.

Scientists are divided 48 inactive Americans, aged between 55 and 75, into two groups. Members of the first group were told to drink half a liter of water before each of three daily meals. Others have not been told what to drink. Before testing, all participants entered between 1800 and 2200 calories a day. In the beginning of the study, the daily intake for women was reduced to 1200 calories while men were allowed 1,500 calories. After three months, the group that drank water before meals lost weight is about 7 kg per person, and a group that did not drink any water weight reduction is only 5kg per person.

Although both groups are to lose weight, Dr.. Davy has refused any doubts about the results. Since this is a random testing, there is no selection bias. It is possible that the water is replaced sugar drinks in the group that drank water, but that does not explain the weight loss, since they are associated with calorie sodas consumed by other groups, must be within the daily limits. Furthermore, the effect seems to be long-lasting.In the next 12 months, participants were allowed to eat and drink what they want.
